Reef tank casualty

Reef tank casualty

We had our first reef tank casualty this week, a peppermint shrimp, and we are unsure of the cause of death. We have one cleaner shrimp and two other peppermint shrimp, although we rarely see the other peppermints. We added the peppermint shrimp to keep down our aiptasia population and we haven’t seen any aiptasia in the tank recently, so they seem to have kept them under control. There are only 4 shrimp in our 75 gallon tank and we feed Arcti Pods and Trigger Pods, and also find the shrimp on occasion eating specks of left over fish food from the substrate, so¬† I doubt competition for food or lack of it was a factor. We have begun feeding the other peppermint shrimp (when we see them) Nori, which is dried seaweed, which they pick at but don’t seem to care for, although the cleaner shrimp loves it. All of our water parameters and temperatures have been consistent and we have been regular with our water changes. If another dies we will have to investigate further, but from reading other forums there is sometimes no answer.
