Pineapple Sponges

Who lives as a Pineapple Under the Sea? A Pineapple Sponge!

Ever since we have seen and identified these pineapple sponges, we can’t help but sing the Spongebob Squarepants theme song every time we see them.

These sponges are filter feeders and are usually seen in newer tanks. They are beneficial as they help to maintain good water quality and are very cool in our opinion. The largest they get from my reading is about an inch, but right now they are tiny. We have not seen them in our display tank as of yet, but have many of them in our sump. If they do end up in the display tank we will probably remove most of them, as in a very short amount of time they have exploded in numbers.

Just one more fascinating addition to our reef tank!
